Installation

FIRST can take the responsibility of installing the fire protection equipment including hook-up to all relevant platform systems such as piping, electrical power, instrument air system, fire and gas panel etc.


Commissioning

FIRST prefers to be involved in start- up and commissioning of the delivered fire protection equipment.

Even though the fire protection systems are relatively simple technical systems, compared to many of the other systems on a platform, we have learned that it is an advantage that our personelI is involved in this work.

This allows us to verify that the equipment is correctly installed, that the system can be released and reset as intended, that all signals are correct, and that it gives the correct flow and discharge pressures according the the approved design criteria.

In a fire situation on a platform, the lives of those people onboard relies on the instant functioning of the fire protection equipment and systems.

It is therefore of vital importance to ensure that the systems function as intended.


Turn Key Upgrading

FIRST has gained a substantial experience in upgradings and modifications to platforms where the platform lifetime has been extended, or where severe maintenance problems have occured.

Normally one of our service technicians together with one of our engineers will go to the installation to assist in defining the problems and determine a technical solution.

Our engineers will then design an engineered kit or unit that will fit into the existing space and fit in with the existing interface conditions. FIRST  will take the responsibility to build the equipment in accordance with this, and carry out factory testing to verify compliance with the agreed specifications.

Our service personnel can take responsibility for planning and execution of everything from dismantling the existing units, installation of the new units, system testing and verification. We have also in such cases provided fire guards when major fire protection systems are out of service during such upgradings.

Our engineers will take the work of upgrading the documentation to reflect and include the new solutions, as well as training of the platform personnel in operation, testing and maintenance of the new system.

 

Preparation of specifications for fire protection

FIRST can produce professional technical specifications for all kinds of fire protection equipment and -systems.

These can be prepared either as functional specifications, or with detailed technical descriptions of a specific design.

The specifications will be ensured to describe proven, workable solutions, which are in compliance with recognized standards.

Fire fighting system design

Our experience, give us the opportunity to design all categories of fire fighting systems suitable for the oil- and gas industry.

Almost all systems are tailor-made, and our library of 3-D models enables us to prepare drawings of suitable solutions on short notice.

Design and hydraulic calculation of deluge distrubution systems

We can undertake responsibility for deluge design, including location of nozzles and design of distribution piping system, complete with isometric layout drawings.

We can also provide hydraulic calculations, by use of Pipenet Software, and optimize the system with regards to hydraulic balance. Isometric drawings may include complete material take-off lists.

We can also contribute with design and specialized equipment, to solve your surge pressure problems in your firewater piping system.

Engineering Support

FIRST has an organization of engineers with extensive experience in engineering and supply of Fire protection Systems. This experience can also be offered to provide engineering support in the following fields:

  •      Fire Risk consideration, and selection of type of Fire Protection System / Equipment
  •      Preparation of Fireprotection Specifications
  •      Preparation of  Fire Protection Plot Plans and Piping and Instrument Diagrams
  •      Design of deluge and sprinkler nozzle lay-out drawings
  •      Design of deluge distribution piping arrangement for minimum hydraulic imbalance

 

Regular servicing and periodical inspections

System Check and testing
FIRST offers to arrange examinations/checks of installed fire fighting systems on a regular basis, in order to determine the status of the equipment and to provide recommendations for repair, replacements or upgrades. FIRST can also carry out testing of water flow, foam induction rate, checking of the foam concentrate etc.

Service Agreement
Based on an agreed level of involvement, FIRST offers to undertake responsibility of all periodical inspection and servicing of your fire fighting equipment.

In control
We will then inspect and service all fire fighting equipment, and do everything required for you to be assured that the equipment will work whenever needed. Our testing also includes analysis of foam liquid and dry powder.

High alert
Further we will immediately alert you, should we determine conditions, which could,  cause a future malfunction in any of the firefighting systems.

Periodical inspections
By letting us take responsibility for service and maintenance, your employees are given enough space to keep their focus in the right places. We are glad to take responsibility for periodical inspections of high pressure air cylinders like for instance start air bottles and breathing apparatus for life boats.

Full scale testing of deluge systems

Let us take responsibility for your on-site, full scale testing. This includes necessary preparations at the site, execution of the test, verification of flow/pressure according to hydraulic calculations, verification of area coverage (density) to ensure sufficient flow in all areas, inspection of all objects to have sufficient protection, a check of system performance with regards to wind-conditions, verify correct flow through all nozzles etc.

The test will be recorded, by use of “clamp on” flow meter(s), pressure transmitters and data-logger. A detailed test report will be issued.

The FIRST full flow deluge test:

1 Preparation and approval of procedures, check lists, and Safe Job Analysis
2 Evaluation of existing manning plan.
3 Visual inspection of deluge system, distribution network and nozzle location. These are checked against ISO drawings and hydraulic calculations.
4 Covering of sensitive electrical and instrumentation equipment.
5 Inspection of the function of the existing drainage system
6 Performing of the decided scenario test.
7 Testing of Fire Pumps with reference to valid pump curves.
8 Verification and testing of release and alarm units
9 Measurements of total flow and pressures and checking of specific nozzle pressures.
10 Checking of foam induction rate and foam quality for deluge/foam systems.
11 Visual inspection of nozzle performance and distribution.
12 Corrective actions and retesting as deemed necessary in case of failures.
13 Rechecking and flushing with freshwater.
14 Refilling and resetting of all equipment.
15 Issuing of test documentation and reporting.
16 Preparation of potential proposal for improvements or changes.
